1. GOVERNING IN THE AI ERA 

Course Length: 1 day 

Course Summary: The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into citizen services and public policy is accelerating with Congress and White House actions. In this non-technical course, federal government leaders will be equipped with the functional understanding of AI technology, application frameworks, executive orders and frameworks. We discuss aspects that can support and impact implementation of AI. It will set the platform for enabling the federal workforce within your agencies in their adoption of AI. Through a blend of theory and case studies  participants will have the opportunity to navigate the AI landscape and understand how to leverage this for the agency mission. 

Key Topics: 

  • Technologies that led to the current AI boom, including machine learning, deep learning, and hardware improvement 

  • The progression of AI including foundational Large Language Models (LLM) that are behind ChatGPT, Gemini, etc. 

  • Legal, and societal implications of AI adoption in government settings. 

  • How AI can improve decision-making processes, policy development, and strategic planning within federal agencies. 

  • Potential challenges and limitations of AI implementation in government contexts. 

  • Collaboration with Chief AI Officers (CAIO) and AI specialists within the agency to integrate AI solutions seamlessly into your agency’s operations

2. EMPOWERING AI WITHIN THE FEDERAL WORKFORCE 

Course Length: 1 day 

Course Summary: This course equips federal employees with a functional understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI). A workforce that is AI conversant is essential to support the vision and actions coming from leaders in the Executive and Legislative branches. This program goes beyond using ChatGPT into technical basics, various applications, safety and data framework guidelines to equip you with the skills to leverage AI for impactful public policy. 3. ETHICS IN AI & DATA ENABLEMENT WITHIN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT 

Course Length: 4 hours 

Course Summary: Federal employees will increasingly be asked to use AI and data technology to support agency missions but also have a great responsibility to support safe and responsible execution. This course equips federal staff with the knowledge and tools to navigate this complex landscape of ethics, safety, privacy and bias. We explore federal data ethics framework, relevant legal practices and tactical actions in upholding privacy, confidentiality, and transparency with AI integrated applications.

  • Understand the nuances, interpretation of the Federal Data Ethics Framework 

  • Benefits and applications of data ethics in government 

  • Legal frameworks governing data collection and use 

  • Strategies for protecting privacy and data subject rights

  • Applying data ethics framework to the analytics process

4. DATA VISUALIZATION – MAXIMIZING YOUR STORY 

Course Length: 2 hours 

Course Summary: One of the key skills for modern workforces is the ability to narrate data stories. This course is catered to government employees to learn how to transform raw data into clear and compelling visuals that tell a story. The course will focus on relevant examples varying from public health trends, budget allocations, or program performance. If you have to decipher data in spreadsheets, this course can help you narrate that visual story. 

Key Topics: 

  • Foundations of color theory, layout strategies, and effective use of text and labels to optimize data presentation. 

  • Chart types (bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, etc.) and how to select the most appropriate one to reveal trends and highlight key findings in your data 

  • Improving accuracy with best practices for data representation and avoid misleading formats or cluttered visuals. 

Who Should Attend: Leaders responsible for presenting program performance and progress data to executives or external stakeholders. 

5. DATA VISUALIZATION – INTRODUCTION TO POWER BI 

Course Length: 2 hours 

Course Summary: Federal government has adopted most apps within the Microsoft ecosystem and Power BI is one of the applications that is great for impactful data visualization. Power BI is also an intuitively easy application and, in this course, we will teach how to navigate and utilize features of Power BI. Using hands-on exercises with small government datasets, you can understand the method to creating a visual data story.

  • Understanding Microsoft Fabric and Power BI’s place within it 

  • Exploring  the Power BI interface 

  • Data Transformation & Cleaning techniques 

  • Organizing and preparing government data for visualization

6. BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS FOR DATA DRIVEN FEDERAL AGENCIES 

Course Length: 3 hours 

Course Summary: Every agency is using data to help measure and accelerate towards its mission outcomes. This course delves into the data driven Business Model Canvas (BMC) to help you analyze your organization’s effectiveness and identify areas where data and analytics can significantly boost your operations. The BMC serves as a framework to dissect your organization’s core components.

  • Identifying the power of data in various business activities and explore how data empowers informed decision-making across all aspects of your organization 

  • Visualizing your organization through the lens of the business model canvas, we will walk you through each section of the BMC 

  • Designing a data-driven business model for your organization integrating data and analytics into each aspect of your organization 

  • Articulating value propositions from data and analytics activities 

  • Communicating the benefits of data-driven decision-making to stakeholders and beneficiaries, demonstrating how data analytics strengthens your mission outcomes
